Solutions Start Here

The 16 million small businesses represented by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) play a vital role in our nation’s economy. In fact, small businesses generate half of America’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create two-thirds of net new jobs annually. Yet, this engine of our economy is continually threatened by the high cost of healthcare and difficulty purchasing health insurance. Current laws deny small businesses the same healthcare options enjoyed by large corporations. Premium increases are placing an overwhelming burden on small businesses and employees, who continue to struggle with high deductibles and inadequate access to affordable care.

America’s job creators are looking for real and meaningful healthcare reform that takes into account the challenges that small business owners and their employees face. To address these challenges, NFIB developed a platform -- Small Business Principles for Healthcare Reform -- to serve as the foundation of any successful policy initiative. These 10 Principles also are the basis of the NFIB Solutions Start Here campaign to demonstrate that solutions should start with the innovators and risk takers who are today’s small business men and women.

NFIB has made a commitment to engage and educate policymakers about the unique healthcare issues faced by small business. Solutions Start Here will drive and integrate the concerns and needs of America’s small business community into the national healthcare reform debate. Because when healthcare is fixed for small business, it’s fixed for America.
