Much is right about American healthcare (high life expectancy, improved mortality stats for big diseases, comparisons with other countries). Americans enjoy choices among insurers and providers. But there are unacceptable disparities, costs are rising rapidly, and some aspects of employer-based insurance are problematic. Lou Rossiter explores this further in this NFIB-sponsored study.

One of the biggest mistakes policymakers could make working on healthcare reform is to enact an employer mandate. An employer mandate is backwards in both results and philosophy. Above all, it would do great harm and little good.
